Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer Review and Giveaway

EXERGEN300DPILOGO 150x48 Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer Review and Giveaway

Courtesy of  Exergen Corporation and Mama Buzz, we were sent for review (and giveaway) an Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer. Temporal scanners are what our pediatricians office uses to take our children’s temperatures. In fact, Exergen markets two models of the TemporalScanner thermometer: a professional model for doctors’ offices and hospitals, and a consumer model sold in major retailers including Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreen’s, Costco, Sam’s Club, Babies “R” Us, Toys “R” Us, and BJ’s. More than 600 million temperatures are taken each year with the TemporalScanner.

Used in two-thirds of hospitals and half of pediatricians’ offices in the country as well as in millions of homes, it is also the only thermometer manufactured in the United States.

I LOVE this thermometer! It is super easy to use. Especially with my baby who can’t stand to have her temperature taken, even under her arm. It takes, literally, moments to slide the scanner across her forehead to the temple area and get a reading. I scanned myself, hubby and all 4 of our children and received a very accurate reading on all 6 of us. So now, although I pray my children don’t get sick, I will have a way to safely and quickly take their temperature without disturbing their much needed rest.

TAT Thermometer JPG Style08 10 09 135x300 Exergen Temporal Scanner Thermometer Review and Giveaway

While scanning the forehead lightly, “it captures the naturally emitted heat from the skin over the temporal artery, taking 1,000 readings per second, selecting the most accurate. With its patented Arterial Heat Balance system the TemporalScanner measures ambient temperatures, mathematically replaces the small temperature loss from cooling at the skin, and displays an accurate arterial temperature.” (http://www.temporalscanner.com/medical/TAT/tatfaq.html)

2010 Federal Census. Have you been counted?

Economic Census envelope

Have you been counted for the 2010 Federal Census yet? If not, you will be very soon. Don’t blow this off folks, it’s very important to be counted.

The Federal Census recently co-hosted an event with Nickelodeon and launched a new public service video with childrens television character Dora the Explorer. Being counted leads directly to federal funding for our schools, day care and other resources that our children use every day.

Press Release:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Dozens of wide-eyed children had a face-to-face meeting with Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer Tuesday morning as the U.S. Census Bureau launched its new campaign to help ensure children of all ages are counted in the 2010 Census.

The full Census occurs only once every 10 years, therefore a child born today will be in the fourth grade during the next national Census. Missing them this year means the child would spend their first decade of life with reduced health, education and community services because the federal government is unaware of the need.

“A complete and accurate count of our nation’s youngest is critical to their health and education, and the future strength of our communities and labor force,” said Robert M. Groves, director of the U.S. Census Bureau.

The federal government uses Census data to determine how to best distribute more than $400 billion in annual funds, including $26 billion earmarked for educational services and other programs to benefit children. Undercounting will mean some communities won’t get the funds that they need.

Undercounting kids isn’t new. Historically, the Census has missed young children at a significantly higher rate than other demographics, said Dr. William O’Hare, senior consultant and former director of the Kids Count program for the Annie E. Casey Foundation. The 2000 Census missed approximately 750,000 children under the age of five, or about four percent of the total demographic.

Today’s event took place at Mary’s Center for Maternal and Child Care in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1988, Mary’s Center provides health care and other services to low-income immigrant families. Children of all ages were able to watch the new 2010 Census PSA featuring Dora and shrieked and clapped their hands as a life-sized Dora joined them on stage as a special treat.

Watch and share the Dora the Explorer 2010 Census PSA (in English and Spanish).

Maria Gomez, president of Mary’s Center, said the children’s reaction to the PSA shows it will be an effective tool in the campaign to make sure every young child is counted. She believes it will start a “ripple effect,” where everyone who encounters the campaign will share the information throughout their communities. The end result will be a healthier community for children.

Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max + Liz Lange Clutch Giveaway

Cruisers Product Image 139x150 Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max + Liz Lange Clutch Giveaway

A few weeks ago, Pampers sent me a weeks supply of their NEW Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max, available in store sometime this month. (mid March). The newly designed Pampers with Dry Max, 20% thinner and the driest diaper ever.

I have to say, they ARE thin! Really thin compared to other disposable diapers. But not “cheaply-made” thin. They are the kind of thin that we, as parents look for in a diaper and that our babies need for ease of movement. And the tabs are nice and stretchy. The diaper just seemed to fit. Wonderfully.  My little munchkin is in the crawling-jumping-never-ever-sitting-still stage and the diaper stayed right where it was supposed to. She moved non stop and we didn’t experience any leaking and no bunching of the diaper. My husband and I were both impressed!

Clutch with Cruisers 300x200 Pampers Cruisers with Dry Max + Liz Lange Clutch Giveaway

Pampers has been kind enough to offer 1 of my readers (U.S residents only) with a Liz Lange designer diaper clutch AND a redeemable coupon for a free week’s supply of the all-new Cruisers with Dry Max

I didn’t receive a clutch so I can’t review it personally, but I can give you the details that were sent to me along with a photo:
The clutch retails for $50 and is 100% polyester with genuine leather trim.
