I just finished reading, for review, ‘Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio’. For those who may not know, Diamond Rio is a hugely popular country music band comprised of Marty Roe, Dan Truman, Jimmy Olander, Brian Prout, Gene Johnson, and Dana Williams, who got their humble start singing at Opryland in Tennessee.
Beautiful Mess tells how the band got it’s beginning with different members and gives us a glimpse into the lives of each of the 6 current band members. The book starts off with an explosive secret revolving around Marty Roe’s vocal issues, then leads into the story of each member. This certainly made me want to read more. Each band member explains in his own words how he felt about forming Diamond Rio, the near collapse of the band, bits of their personal lives and finally how each found a peace and sense of freedom in their ‘new’ lives. I loved the honesty and rawness in this book although I do wish it had delved a little more into each members experience in the band and less about the earlier members that we no longer see or hear. Diamond Rio’s story showed me that even strange circumstances can have a path meant to be followed and that with prayer and faith, you can overcome anything.

Have a great day!
Harriet
You would think that their editor would have caught that oversight about not writing enough about the members of the band as it is today, but maybe the earlier members’ stories were more interesting?? I have a friend who reads manuscripts to find such things. This one needed you to go over it first!!
